Ainslie

This name probably is of Anglo-Saxon origin, from the Lords of Annesley in Nottinghamshire, who fled into Scotland after 1066. One branch settled in the northwest portion of Midlothian, and others were to be found in Roxburghshire and Haddintgonshire. This Border  family is associated with the Kerrs, with Jedburgh in Roxburghshire, and with East Lothian. There are numerous references to the family in the various lives of the poet Robert Burns.
