Bethune/Beaton/Beattoun/Battison

The name may be derived from MacBeth, which means "son of life" in Gaelic, but others suggest an unidentified place in France. The Beatons of Mull at Pennycross were physicians in the Celtic world, while the Lowland Beatons held extensive lands in Fife and Angus. The two main families of this name may not be related. The MacLeods, the MacLeans, and the MacDonalds also accept this family as a sept.
