Black

This name may be descriptive, referring to dark hair or complexion, or from the Old English, meaning "bright," "white," or "pale." In times of stress, the Lamonts used this name, particularly after 1646, as did the MacGregors in the 17th century. Others of the name were allied to the MacLeans of Duart.
