Blair

This name appears throughout the Lowland and Border regions and is said to be from the descriptive blair or blar, meaning "open plain." There were many unrelated families of the name, particularly near Perth, near Blairgowrie, and at Blair Castle in Ayrshire. The Drummonds and Herons were often enemies with the Blairs, who allied at times to the Grahams.
