Borthwick/Borwick

This territorial name is taken from the Barony of Borthwick and from Borthwick Water or River in Roberton Parish in Roxburghshire. Those of the name first appeared as feudal lords in the 14th century, and cadet lines were found throughout the Border and Lowland regions, as well as in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. In Orkney, the name more often appears as Borwick.
