Boyd

One explanation of this name traces it to the Gaelic buie, for "yellow" or "fair," and another argues that it comes from the Island of Bute. The name first appears in the 13th century, when the family held lands northeast of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. They were long supporters of Bruce and enemies of Baliol and the Montgomeries.
